Hello world!
Welcome to CarrieWanders!! This is the official launching of my travel blog! I have been on so many adventures and I have finally decided to start sharing them with the world. Here you will find not only the crazy stories behind the things I do, but also tips and tricks that I learn along the way. Disclaimer though… I am no expert. I do take all my own photos though, and I usually drag my sister along for the wild adventures. You will get to know and love her just as I do. I guess I should start by telling you all who I am. My name is Carrie (I…

Side Adventure
Today I am at the airport. I’m on my way to Idaho for my grandfather’s memorial service. It may not be the best circumstances, but it still feels good to get away. It feels good to be there for my mom. It feels good to see my sister for a bonus time this year. It feels good to get to see the mountains again. And, it feels good to pack a bag. Adventures come in all shapes and sizes and this one is a little different for me. I am still going to make the best of these five days. The last time I saw my grandpa was on my…

Amicalolalalala part deux
Well, we survived all 1214 steps and the giant hill that led to said steps. And, yes, we counted. It didn’t even rain on us. We had lunch at the top also known as the plunge! We decided to go from bottom to top and then back down. Up was rough. Thighs were burning. Heart rates were high. Coming down we had shaky legs and smiles. These falls truly are amazing and the view from the top is breathtaking. It was awfully crowded today. Probably because we forgot it was a holiday. The new pack was great! Super comfy. It held all my stuff plus some. I had lunch, snacks,…

Amicalolalalala
Here we go…. 604 steps up and then 604 steps back down. The sign says strenuous. Nature says it’s worth it. We will see what my knee says later. Amicalola falls is the tallest waterfall in the state. Views from the plunge at the top are breathtaking. This is also the start of the Appalachian trail that will take you all the way to Maine if you want. At just a bit over 2100 miles it’s a dream trip for me, so stay tuned and someday you’ll get to hear about that adventure. Last night we camped here in the state park. It was a hot and steamy day that…

Resfeber
“The restless race of the traveler’s heart before the journey begins, when anxiety and anticipation are tangled together.” This is what I feel every time I get the itch for a new adventure. I’ve never been able to put a word to it. It has always just been a feeling that is hard to describe to anyone that doesn’t travel often. For me, it’s any time I stumble upon a new place I want to see or new trail I want to hike. This time this feeling brings me to tomorrow. Tomorrow I set out on an adventure with friends. What wonderful and exciting things await us, you ask? Oh,…

Oooooo…. Ahhhhhh…..
Let’s see…. where did I leave off? Ah, yes, we just had the storm the last night in Keystone, SD. On to Jackson Hole, WY we go! So far we have had nothing but beautiful campgrounds (even if they were primitive). Well, welcome to the Jackson Hole KOA. The worst place I have ever camped. I won’t go into that though, because there are far too many amazing things to talk about instead…. Ahh Jackson Hole. I have missed you dearly. This is one of my favorite little towns. It is so full of small town charm. The mountains are absolutely breathtaking. The colors that are created by the sunrise…

Sorry for the delay
Hello from the desert! Just wanted to let everyone know that there will be a post very soon. We have been in some very remote areas with no cell service and no internet. I can tell you, however, that the next post will be great with some fantastic photos. So, stay tuned! Check back in the next couple of days for the next chapter of our journey.

I Feel Like I’m Inside a Bag of Popcorn
So, the adventure begins… All packed up with all the places to go! This is THE trip. Finally happening. I was beyond excited setting out and as I sit here writing this on day four of our trip (in a Starbucks in Jackson Hole, WY) , I am still ecstatic for what lies ahead. Not everything can go perfectly though, right? The first seven hour drive to Salix, Iowa was easy enough. The campground was beautiful and we got there just in time to shower and enjoy the sunset. The next morning we drove to Wall Drug in South Dakota. Bit of a let down, but still a fun little…

The Big Reveal!!!
Here we go everyone!!! Finally the big day has arrived! I am revealing the plan for my epic road trip. I am just a few days away from departure and I am filled with so many emotions: stress, excitement, worry, anticipation… but mostly excitement. As I am sitting here writing this, I have about 25 million lists going through my brain of all the things I still need to do. The tent won’t get here until the end of August now, so we have pretty much given up on that. The last minute items from Amazon should be arriving tomorrow. Now… all I have left to do is pack and…
