Travel With Me

An Adventure of Great Magmatude!

After we left the world’s worst campground, we continued down and around the back mountain roads on our way to the next destination: Craters of the Moon. Basically, its an old volcano in the middle of nowheresville, Idaho that erupted a very long time ago. Now, we are left with a pretty awesome landscape of gnarled up black earth and mounds of sparkling black dust. And by mounds, I mean a really giant hill. We decided to hike up that hill. About half way up, we decided that it was way steeper and way taller than we originally thought, but we kept on chugging. Boy, were we glad we did. The view from the top was amazing. I felt like I was Simba standing on top of that hill looking out over all the lava touched.

It was incredible to stand there and look out over all that land. Seeing where the dark ended and the green began. Wondering what it would have been like to be there when it happened. Hot, I would imagine. Now, we did think about taking one of those shiny, glittering lava rocks with us… but we obeyed the rules and left nature there where it belonged.

Now, down the hill/mound we go. It was hot and a long hike so the car felt great! We have been carrying around our little National Parks passport trying to get all the stamps. At Mount Rushmore we were told there was no stamp because it was a monument (not a park), but there was a place for it in our book…. Here at the Craters of the Moon (also a monument) they had a stamp. So, now we are angry with Mount Rushmore.

Also, while visiting Craters of the moon, there were park rangers doing a little share the knowledge thing with some families. Looking further into it, they have all sorts of cool things. They take you out at night to go stargazing and have an abundance of little lessons on all sorts of things. All of that got me wondering… Should I become a park ranger?

Stay tuned for the next episode of Epic Summer Road Trip. On the next episode, Carrie and Sharice travel to their Grandpa’s house in Idaho. I won’t give too much away, but there will be an episode of laughing so hard they cry and almost pee their pants. See you next blog post! Please, feel free to type your email in that little box so you won’t miss a thing!

I am an almost 30 year old traveling as often as possible, making the most out of life, and working my butt off to get to do the things I like.
