Amicalolalalala
Here we go…. 604 steps up and then 604 steps back down. The sign says strenuous. Nature says it’s worth it. We will see what my knee says later. Amicalola falls is the tallest waterfall in the state. Views from the plunge at the top are breathtaking. This is also the start of the Appalachian trail that will take you all the way to Maine if you want. At just a bit over 2100 miles it’s a dream trip for me, so stay tuned and someday you’ll get to hear about that adventure.
Last night we camped here in the state park. It was a hot and steamy day that turned into a wonderful chilly evening. Perfect camping weather. We had a great fire going and roasted hotdogs and marshmallows. It’s calling for rain today, but we came prepared. Word is the falls are even more beautiful when it rains. Today is cooler with this threat of a storm, but it’s still early so it may turn into quite the sticky afternoon.
There is a smell in the air here this time of year. It almost smells like rotting flowers. It’s sweet and it’s everywhere. It’s so green here as well. It felt so great to wake up this morning to nature and a great cup of coffee brewed over a morning campfire. I really feel I could live like this permanently. There’s just something about the south that makes me feel at home.
Today is the first hike using my new Osprey pack. I’ve got my trusty Merrell shoes and as always my Canon rebel T6. Hopefully I will have some great shots of the falls to share with you guys in the morning. Wish me luck all!
